Hi, I’m Kelly! I work remotely as a Bioinformatics Software Engineer for Frederick National Lab on the CCBR core team. I completed my PhD in Bioinformatics in Pat Schloss’ lab at the University of Michigan, where I developed bioinformatics tools and data analysis pipelines for microbial ecology and host-associated microbiome research. I’m a fan of open science, open source software, and reproducible research.
When I’m not in the dry lab, you might find me running, cycling, climbing, or otherwise being active outside. I recently co-founded Your Neighborhood Scientist, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public understanding of science. While pursuing my PhD at UMich, I volunteered with Girls Who Code, taught Software Carpentry workshops, and hosted CoderSpaces office hours. I also moonlight as a live sound engineer from time to time.
